Dear Reader,
Taking advantage of new opportunities as a teenager aids in developing self awareness. Teens struggle in understanding who they, and their interests. By trying new things and jumping on opportunities aids in understanding who you truly are, and what you desire in life. As a teenager, who is soon to be finishing high school, there are many major decisions to be made in order to plan and shape for the future. These decisions cause great stress and confusion, fearing that the wrong choice will be made. Students who remain focused on what they know, and do not expand their horizons, lack schema, and are not exposed to different environments. By experiencing new atmospheres, participating in every opportunity presented, and expanding comfort zones, it results in increased self awareness, which aids in the decision making process. It is crucially important that young people are exposed to as many opportunities as they can, because it allows them to discover themselves and their interests.
Throughout this collection the theme is “taking advantage of new opportunities as a teenager aids in developing self awareness” is represented throughout various writing genres. My fictional piece is represented by a freeform poem about how travelling can change how a person sees themselves, and the atmosphere they want to be in. The informational research piece is a persuasive letter, discussing the importance of extracurricular activities when developing into an adult and discovering what the future holds. My non fiction piece is a journal entry about my personal experience as a Page for the Legislative Assembly for Prince Edward Island, and how taking advantage of that experience allowed me to discover information about myself. Lastly, my visual is an image which represents a student attending the Canadian Student Leadership Conference, and how that conference is an incredible opportunity in leading to figuring out who you want to be.
My repetend is not specifically a quote or a phrase, but it is that each piece of writing is based on an experience or opportunity that I have personally gone through, relating to my theme. My fictional is based on the experiences one of my best friends had during our trip to New York City. My informational is about a current issue that is happening in our province that is greatly affecting me, and I am strongly passionate about. My non fictional is based on my opportunity to serve as a page at the Legislative Assembly. And my visual discusses my experience at CSLC.
I hope you enjoy my multi genre collection,
Carleigh
